n the areas of Gujarat people are really struggling. Poverty is not a number here — it is something that people face every day. Many families are finding it hard to get two meals a day, so things like education and healthcare seem like things they can only dream of. They are often very sad and quiet. Parents are so poor that they have to send their daughters to their homes with almost nothing.
This is a sad reality in the tribal areas of Gujarat — known as Tribal biscuit exchange marriage. It shows why deeper support and dignity for families are urgently needed.
In 2023 the Jan Swabhiman team came to help. They did not want poverty to ruin the weddings of the people. So they organized a wedding for 61 couples — an effort to make sure that the daughters of the tribal people get the respect they deserve.
“Our daughters deserve more than just a few biscuits. They deserve to be treated with respect.”
Everything changed after that. The air was filled with the sound of prayers. The ritual of giving away the bride was done with respect and love. The Mangalsutra, a symbol of marriage, was given with pride — restoring dignity to families who had long been denied it.
